Guidance Software Announces Availability of EnCase(R) Cybersecurity

PASADENA, Calif., Sep 28, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Guidance Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:GUID), The World Leader in Digital Investigations(TM), today announced that EnCase Cybersecurity(R) is now generally available.

EnCase Cybersecurity is designed for information security, network defense and incident response teams who are tasked with protecting sensitive or confidential information, and identifying and responding to network threats. EnCase Cybersecurity complements and augments existing information security tools that aim either to block or quarantine data - such as firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, antivirus, or data loss prevention tools - or that trigger or correlate alerts, such as intrusion detection systems, configuration management, or SIM and SIEM tools. EnCase Cybersecurity provides:

  • The ability to identify and analyze undiscovered threats, such as polymorphic or metamorphic malware, packed files, and other advanced hacking techniques that evade traditional network- or host-based defenses.
  • Powerful investigative capabilities so that an organization can search across its network for sensitive or confidential data, such as credit card numbers, account numbers, or intellectual property.
  • Risk mitigation by wiping sensitive or confidential data from unauthorized locations, and removing malware and malware artifacts from hard drives, RAM, and the Windows Registry on laptops, desktops, and servers.
  • Visibility into endpoint risk, leveraging disk-level forensic access of data on endpoints, with the ability to compare endpoints against a trusted baseline and/or an included hash database (both whitelist and blacklist).

As Forrester Research has noted, "[t]he news is filled with reports of networks attacks and stolen data. Consumers routinely undergo the stress of fraudulent charges or compromised credit cards. Terms such as `botnet' have become part of our vocabulary. As a result, security and risk professionals find themselves on a never-ending quest to maintain the integrity of their networks." ("TechRadar(TM) For Security & Risk Professionals: Network Threat Mitigation, Q3 2009", Forrester Research, Inc., July 2009).

"Protected U.S. government networks have fallen prey to an alarming array of attacks in recent months. For contractors like Guidance Software, this is a critical time to support government agencies to meet threats headfirst as they try to gain control of the cyber-crisis," said Kate Naunheim, Senior Analyst, Federal Opportunities at market intelligence research and consulting firm, INPUT.

"We are extremely pleased to announce that EnCase Cybersecurity is now shipping," said Victor Limongelli, President and CEO of Guidance Software. "Since we previewed EnCase Cybersecurity at our annual CEIC(R) user conference in May, both public and private sector customers have expressed great interest in its capabilities to protect networks, reduce risk, and respond to breaches."
