Guidance Software Adds Patrick Zeller to Legal and Regulatory Team

Chicago-based litigator and former Assistant Attorney General combines technology and corporate expertise

PASADENA, Calif. (January 23, 2006) – Guidance Software, the world leader in computer investigation solutions, announced today that it has added Chicago-based litigator Patrick Zeller to the Legal and Regulatory team as assistant general counsel. As both a former assistant attorney general focused on computer crime and as eDiscovery and litigation counsel with the national law firm of Seyfarth Shaw, Zeller’s career focus addresses the myriad of legal and compliance issues surrounding high technology. That focus will continue at Guidance Software, where he will consult and work with Guidance Software’s clients and business partners in eDiscovery and compliance process development and strategies.

Prior to joining Guidance Software, Zeller practiced litigation in the Chicago office of Seyfarth Shaw where he co-chaired the firm’s Electronic Discovery Task Force. His practice primarily involved commercial litigation, with a strong emphasis on high technology issues and electronic discovery. Prior to Seyfarth Shaw, Zeller served as an Assistant Attorney General and the Director of the Computer Crimes Institute for the State of Illinois where he prosecuted and advised prosecutors and law enforcement agents on Internet and high-tech criminal investigations.

“Patrick brings that rare blend of corporate and computer investigation experience that we value so highly at Guidance Software, and he will be a great addition to our team,” said Guidance Software CEO John Colbert. “He understands the evolution of our software from its roots as a tool for law enforcement, and will be a major part of our ongoing efforts to address the burgeoning eDiscovery and compliance needs for our corporate clients with EnCase Enterprise®.”

Zeller’s experience also includes lecturing on Internet and high-tech crimes at numerous law enforcement training venues nationwide, including the FBI Academy. He is widely regarded as one of the leading minds in this emerging field, and his specialties include: computer intrusion, economic espionage, online fraud, intellectual property, copyright and trademark enforcement, and consumer fraud issues.

“As someone who has personally dealt with eDiscovery at the largest corporate levels, I am acutely aware of the need for Encase Enterprise and what a return on investment it can provide for companies large and small,” said Patrick Zeller. “Guidance Software provides a uniquely effective solution that can dramatically cut costs across the board, and I look forward to utilizing my experience to empower companies to combat the ever increasing costs of eDiscovery, compliance and incident response.”

Zeller was the 2000 Computer Crime Fellow for the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG), serving as a trial attorney to the Department of Justice Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section. He holds several certifications in computer forensics, including an EnCe from his time with the Illinois Attorney General’s office.
